DOUG'S NOTES:
As Jerry Seinfeld would say, "WHAT'S THE DEAL with 'Mustang Sally'??!!" This song cuts across a large generational swath - all ages adore this tune. From the Wilson Pickett purists to the youngsters who simply like a good beat, "Mustang Sally" gets high marks all across the board.
When Christopher Jon and I were selecting songs for the Feelin' Alright CD, we wanted to pick tunes that had a broad appeal regardless of genre. So we chose some '50s rock 'n roll, a couple of country tunes, some originals and a couple of R&B classics - one of which was "Mustang Sally."
I think you'll agree that Chris does a great job on vocals with a soulful rasp that belies his northwest Iowa roots. Chris, Jeni Grouws and I provide the iconic "Ride Sally ride" vocal refrain to a B-3 infused Memory Brothers' track drippin' with funk guitar that would do the "Swampers" proud!
